On Nov 21 2012 On November 20, 2012 I stayed the night in room 215 and by the time I got back home the following afternoon I realized I had a painful rash on my back. I didn't think about checking the mattress for bed bugs while I was there because they are not prevalent where I live. I am going to call the hotel in the morning and speak with the manager.

On Nov 20 2012 Stayed at the Opal for 3 nights last week. No issues whatsoever. Previously I read the reports from 2010 on this site, so I called the hotel manager. She told me they had changed their housekeeping processes and providers and had eliminated the problems, and she was right. The hotel was clean and comfortable, bathrooms well serviced, and no bedbugs.

It was not a comfortable home away from home feeling. The oldness of the hotel definitely suits the age of the hotel, but does not create a comfortable ambience by any means. The staff although not enough of them were fabulous with answering questions...

I have to admit I was a little worried after reading the reviews about bed bugs, thugs around the neighborhood etc etc, but bottom line it was not bad at all. Check in was friendly and fast, room was pretty big and yes, the bathroom was very small, only one person fit at a time but it was no biggie. The bed was neither comfortable or horrible to sleep, just ok. We checked...

Initially we were somewhat weary because of the bed bug review we read awhile back, but either way we know it's a long shot that something like this could happen to people. We arrived Friday night and checked in. The lobby was nice, we were greeted by 2 friendly staff members and we were on our way to our suite. I didn't expect much from this hotel,...

It just so happened that I found it as when there was a staff member in the room with me fixing the thermostat for the heat. (which was also broken) They comped the entire stay (5days) and pay to have all my belongings dry cleaned. Now if they could only explain this to my new employers which...

My traveling companion received some nasty bites from them (and yes, I am certain that these were bedbugs after looking them up online and squashing one full of blood post-biting my friend's arm). When we checked out, we alerted the front desk to the bugs. The gentleman...

On Apr 17 2010 Daria00 wrote, I too concur about the bedbugs. After a long drive up, all I wanted to do was curl up on the bed and rest. Moments after my initial plopping onto the mattress both legs began itching. Its a good thing that didn't transfer onto the under sheets or I would have checked out immediately. It is a shabby hotel at best. Don't let the hotel lobby fool you, as soon as we entered the room we were assigned, all...

Now that I read reviews, i find many other people complaining about bedbugs at the Opal, including people unwittingly introducing the problem into their own homes. I was going to write the general manager, but apparently this is an old problem at the Opal so now I doubt my complaint would even fix anything. Do not stay at the Opal! Now Im worried and will be washing EVERYTHING...

On Nov 12 2009 Chris wrote, Stayed at the Opal Hotel for 2 nights in Oct 2009. After the first night I noticed about 10 red marks on my skin, itchy red welts that I have never experienced before in my life. We checked the sheets and did not find any bugs or blood marks, yet I am certain these marks on my body are bed bug bites, due to the timing of their appearance the reports of bugs by previous travellers.
